Tameka & Jay
Part 1
‘Head underwater, and they tell me, to breath easy for a while. They breathing gets harder, even I know that…’ I sang. My fingers hit the keys of the piano at the right time. Mum had always said i was talented. Siva had agreed, but he was much better than me. As was Trevor. Kumar though… not so much. Nareesha clapped, and Siva grinned at me as I finished the song. ‘Well done Tam!’ Nareesha grinned, hugging me. ‘It’s really good.’ SIva smiled at me. ‘Thanks.’ I smiled. ‘Right, I have to go, band stuff.’ Siva said, getting up. He paused. ’Why don’t you come with me?’ He asked me. ‘Really?!’ I cried. I’d never been invited to band stuff before. ‘Yeh. Nathan and Tom play the piano, you might as well show off to them.’ He grinned. ‘Okay!’ I smiled, leaving the music where it was and getting up, following Siva out of the room.
Part 2
Siva hammered on the door of the flat. ‘Jay!?’ He yelled. The door swung open, but it was Tom who answered. ‘Hey mate.’ he grinned, stepping aside to let us in. ‘And who’s this?’ he asked, looking at me. ‘Tameka. My little sister.’ Siva answered, just as i was about to speak. I nodded. Tom grinned. I had never even met the boys before. But I’d seen them in magazines and on TV enough to know their names, and practically everything about them. ‘I wanted her to see Jayne actually.’ Siva said. ‘What?’ I asked, my head whipping up. ‘Seev!’ I heard Max yell from somwhere in the flat. ‘Seev’s here?’ It was Jay. He was by far my favorite out of the band. Except for Seev. He came skidding round the corner and grinned at Siva. ‘Hey mate!’ he grinned, and then he looked at me, his smile fading. ‘Who’s this?’ ‘Tameka.’ I muttered. He smiled. ‘Mind if i call you Tam?’ he asked. He could call me whatever the hell he liked. ‘Sure.’ I smiled. He smiled, nodded, and then turned to Siva. ’ Come on then.’ he grinned, running off round the corner again.
Part 3
‘Want some tea or coffee?’ Jay asked me. I shook my head and went to sit on the sofa next to Siva.‘YES PLEEEEEEEEASE!’ Nathan yelled. Jay frowned at him. ‘I didn’t ask you.’ ‘So?’ He shrugged. ‘I want some tea.’ Jay rolled his eyes before heading into the kitchen, giving Nathan the fingers over his shoulder. ‘So Tam, we’ll be seeing Jayne tomorrow. She’s holding auditions for a new girlband soon, I’m sure if she hears you you’ll be guaranteed a place.’ Siva told me. ‘What? No, I can’t sing in front of her! No way am I good enough!’ I said. I secretly liked the sound of being in a girlband, but if I was going to try I would audition like everyone else. ‘Tam, you’re amazing. You know you are, you can tell when you sing.’ Siva pu his hand on my shoulder. I opened my mouth to reply, but was interrupted when Jay re-entered the room. ‘RIGHT YOUR MAJESTY. Here’s your bloody tea!’ He yelled, walking towards Nathan to hand him the cup of tea he requested. ‘AAH!’ Nathan yelled. Jay had caught his foot on the coffee table and the tea had spilt all over Nathan. Jay was on the floor, his face bright red, while all the other lads laughed at them both being in pain.
Part 4
‘Fucking hell Jay!’ Nathan shouted, taking off his shirt. His chest was all red, as was Jays face. ‘Don’t blame me! Blame that damn table..’ He laughed. Nathan stormed out of the room, he was not in a good mood now. I looked around at the others trying to contain their laughter at Nathans outburst, but failing as soon the room was filled with the sound of their laughs. I looked over at Jay, lying on the floor in hysterics. He was adorable when he laughed. I bit my lip, and looked away. But Siva wasn’t about to let me off that easily. ‘Just go to the auditions, Tam. Please?’ ‘What we talking about?’ Jay asked. His face was slowly going back to it’s normal colour. ‘I’m tryong to get Tam to go to Jayne’s auditions on Monday.’ Siva groaned. Jay looked straight at me. ‘I didn’t know you could sing, Tam.’ I smiled, shrugging, slowly turning red. ‘Can I hear you?’ he asked. I looked around the room. Everyone ahd stopped laughing and was looking at me. ‘Sure.’ I muttered. ‘Why not?’
Part 5
I sat down by the piano at the other side of the room. I could feel their eyes on me, even though I couldn’t see them. I placed my fingers on the keys and began to play. ‘On the first page, of our story, the future seemed so bright..’ I sang. I was always so nervous before I sang in front of people, but when I started singing I forgot everything, it was like I was in another world. I finished off the song without making any mistakes. Secretly feeling proud of myself, I turned around and smiled shyly, not making eye contact with anyone.
‘Tameka, that was..’ Jay began.
‘Amazing.’ I looked up to see Nathan standing in the doorway smiling at me. They were all smiling.
‘Look who’s out of his little mood!’ Tom laughed, ruffling Nathan’s hair.
‘I heard someone singing so I came downstairs to investigate. Tameka, you should really go to the auditions Jayne’s holding, you’d make the band for sure.’
‘You really think so?’ I looked around, everyone was nodding in agreement. ‘Okay then..’ They all cheered and Siva came over and put his arm over my shoulders.
‘Imagine that, my little sister in a girlband!’ He smiled. I looked over at Jay, who just happened to be looking back at me. Awkward eye contact.
‘You really are amazing, Tam.’ He blinked and smiled slightly.
‘Thanks..’ I smiled back at him.
