Gwen & Tom
Part 15 - a year later
I sat in front of the tv with a cup of tea. It was switched off, but that didn’t stop me staring at it. Just mindlessly staring at it. It had been hard getting over Tom, but I think I was there. In the beginning, he had called me and texted me every day, but it had slowly dwindled to a couple of texts every few days, then once a week, then once every two weeks, till eventually, nothing.
“Gwen, come on, get up.” My best friend, Alice said.
“No.” I replied.
She sighed. “Another bad day?” She asked.
I nodded.
Days where I didn’t have to work were the worst. I loved my job - I was a teacher at the primary school I had went to. I taught reception class, and they were amazing. They never failed to make me smile. They kept my mind off everything. Bt saturdays and sundays were the worst. It was the weekend, so I didn’t go to work, and if I wasn’t going out with mates I would tend to just sit in the house, doing this, that and the other.
“Come on,” She said, sitting next to and smiling. “Let’s go out.”
I smiled, but shook my head.
“Gwen-” she sighed, but she was cut off by her phone ringing. “Hang on,” She said, and answered it. “Hello?…Is he? Oh, does he now? Well tell him he can fuck right off…no, I don’t want him round here. It’s not fair on her…he’s already on his way round?…fantastic. Absolutely fucking fantastic….can you not ring him?…Oh god…Well, I’m not answering the door to him… OKay. Thanks Viv.” And she hung up.
“What’s going on?” I asked, frowning.
Alice stood up and looked out the window, peeking round the curtains. “Nothing.” She murmured.
“Hm. Okay, then.” I muttered, rolling my eyes.
“Shit.” She muttered, and ran to the door as there was a knock at it. “Go away…”
